Standard

UEBT's Standard stems from the seven Principles and Criteria as developed by the UNCTAD BioTrade initiative.

The Standard is an international standard designed in accordance with the requirements for developing Standards as stipulated by the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and the International Social and Environmental Accreditation and Labelling Alliance (ISEAL). These requirements include the need to carry out consultations open to all stakeholders, decision-making mechanisms, and the need to periodically review the standard (at least every five years).

The Standard is the tool used to make a diagnosis and to analyse a Trading Member organization, in comparison with the Principles and Criteria of Ethical BioTrade so as to determine those parts in a Trading Member's activities and work that need to be addressed. As such, it is the main tool to develop individual work-plans that guide members towards compliance with the Ethical BioTrade Principles and Criteria and continuous improvement.
