Seminar on Access and Benefit sharing, patents and natural ingredients

The Union for Ethical BioTrade announces a seminar on Access and Benefit Sharing, patents and natural ingredients, which will take place in Geneva on 22nd October 2009.
The seminar will be focusing on questions and concerns posed by the link between patents and biodiversity in the food and cosmetics sector. It will feature discussions on various challenges and options for developing ethical biodiversity sourcing practices by industry. The seminar will bring together internationally recognized experts, presenting their views on:
- Trends on patents for natural ingredients,
- The issue of patents, biodiversity, and biopiracy and,
- Ethical measures that companies can consider when applying for patents.
The seminar is aimed at companies that develop and/or use natural ingredients in the food and cosmetic sectors, and are considering or are already using patents in relation to these ingredients.

Companies that wish to register for this seminar must complete the registration form and send it to the Union for Ethical BioTrade. The deadline for registration is the 15th of October. There are a limited number of spaces available which are being attributed on a first come first served basis.

Conference cost:
- Payment should be made by bank transfer. An invoice will be sent upon registration.
- For Members of the Union for Ethical BioTrade, the cost is 100 Euros.
- Charges for non-members are 450 Euros.
- A special fee of 250 Euros applies to small and medium enterprises; companies based in a developing country; and applicant members of the Union for Ethical BioTrade.
- The registration fee includes the access to the conference, the coffee break and lunch.
